Cosmos-2427, a Kobalt-M optical reconnaissance satellite, launched on June 7, 2007, completed its mission and re-entered on August 23, 2007. The satellite worked on orbit for 76 days, which is somewhat shorter than usual operational life of about 120 days. The Space Forces representative was quoted as saying that Cosmos-2427 completed its mission successfully.

In what appears to be a normal procedure Cosmos-2427 shed some fragments shortly before landing, two of which were catalogues by NORAD (32048 and 32049). The fragments re-entered shortly thereafter.
