On December 14, 2009 the Space Forces conducted a successful launch of a Proton-M launcher from the Baykonur launch site. The launch took place at 13:38 MSK (10:38 UTC) from the launch pad No. 81. The launcher equipped with a DM-3 booster stage delivered into orbit three new Glonass-M satellites.

The satellites were deployed in the first orbital plane of the Glonass constellation. Cosmos-2456 (NORAD catalog number 36111, international designation 2009-070A, Glonass number 730) will be deployed in the station No. 1, Cosmos-2457 (36112, 2009-070B, 733) in station No. 4, and Cosmos-2458 (36113, 2009-070C, 734) - in station No 5. The satellites joined the Glonass constellation that at that time consisted of 16 operational satellites (one satellite has been withdrawn from the constellation after the launch).

The Space Forces planned to launch six Glonass satellites in 2009, but the second launch was moved to a later date, reportedly in February 2010.
