On 28 August 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported conducting a successful launch of the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk test site. According to the MoD announcement, all warheads arrived at the Kura test site in Kamchatka. The video of the launch showed that the missile was launched from the Krona shelter.
The MoD also reported that "[t]he purpose of the launch was to confirm the tactical, technical, and flight characteristics of the missile system." The report also said that the missile was brought to the test site from a remote deployment base.
The previous Yars launch was conducted in May 2026, during the strategic forces exercise. At the time, the missile was also launched from the Krona shelter.
