Plesetsk launch site will launch eight rockets this year, five of which will be military launches. The acquisition plan for 2006 calls for twelve space launchers and nine military satellites. Three of the nine satellites are Glonass spacecraft that will be launched from Baikonur some time in December. This leaves six military satellites to account for.

The first military launch from Plesetsk, of a Soyuz-U rocket "with a Cosmos-type satellite", will take place in the second quarter of 2006. Most likely it will be a reconnaissance satellite. In addition to this, the new Soyuz-2 launcher will launch a "Cosmos-type" satellite in the third quarter. With the Glonass launch, this accounts for five out of nine military satellites to be launched in 2006.
