According to the RIA article, the Donskoi was only supposed to perform final checks and was never meant to actually fire the missile on this particular outing.
I wouldn't quite trust RIA Novosti in this case - the story about "final checks" seems pretty contrived. As I understand, some reports say that there was, indeed, an attempt to launch, but something didn't work at the very last moment.
