At 13:38 MSK (09:38 UTC) the Rocket Forces launched a Topol/SS-25 missile from the Plesetsk test site toward the Kura test range in Kamchatka. The missile successfuly reached its target.
According to the Rocket Forces representative, the goal of the launch was to confirm characteristics of the currently deployed Topol missiles. It was also reported that the Rocket Forces considers extending the service life of the Topol missiles to 23 years. This number has already been mentioned after a successful test launch in November 2005.

Strange: 2006 - 23 = 1983, but Topol started deployment in 1985.
Explanations please!
It's not that this missile had been in service for 23 years before the test. As I understand, the idea is to extend service life of those Topol missiles that remain to 23 years.

I have a question on a related subject. In 1995 a converted Topol was used to launch satellites under the Start programme from Plestek. The launch failed to deliver the payloads into orbit. The interesting thing was that the LV had 2 normal 2nd stages to increase the payload. Do you have any idea how this LV was launched, because I doubt that it would fit in either the silo or TEL? Thanks in advance
I would doubt it had two second stages. As far as I understand, the START-1 launcher has an added fourth stage. In any event, with the fourth stage the missile sticks out of the container. Apparently, it's not a problem.
The start-1 has indeed only an added 4th kick stage which fits in the container, only just. The Start had two second stages fitted together ( http://www.russianspaceweb.com/start.html & http://www.fas.org/spp/guide/russia/launch/start.htm )
I've learned that the launch to place from LC-158 in Plestek. Its a Hangar with sliding roof used for Topol development.
In case anyone is interested here is a very nice video of a Topol missile being launched at night.

What happens with the Bulava tests? More delays?
According to Gen. Solovtsov, immediately before the launch the launcher with the missile traveled about 100 km.
