On April 16, 2010 at 19:00 MSK (15:00 UTC) the Space Forces successfully launched a Soyuz-U rocket from the Plesetsk launch site. The satellite, Cosmos-2462, appears to be an optical reconnaissance satellite of the Kobalt-M type.

Cosmos-2462 received international designation 2010-014A and NORAD catalog number 36511. According to the NORAD data, Cosmos-2462 was deployed in an orbit with inclination of 67.2 degrees, orbital period of about 89 minutes, apogee of 350 km, and perigee of 180 km.

Previous launch of a satellite of Kobalt-M - Cosmos-2450 - type took place in April 2009 (it completed its mission in July 2009). At the time it was reported that Cosmos-2450 could be the last satellite of this type. Apparently, the decision was made to continue Kobalt-M launches.
