Project 667BDRM submarines begin second round of overhauls

K-51 Verkhoturie submarine of the Project 667BDRM/Delta IV class arrived to the Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk for a scheduled repair and overhaul. K-51 Verkhoturie was the first ship of its class to undergo an overhaul - it was completed in December 1999.

It is possible that the current round of overhaul will include installation of Sineva missiles on the submarine - in 1999 these missiles were simply not available for deployment, so K-51 probably carries older R-29RM missiles.

K-51 entered service in 1984, so it is already 26 years old. I think one report mentioned five more years. This sounds reasonable, but maybe they could get ten more years out of these ships.

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen, plenty of them on both sides.
It's surprising the Air Forces don't lose more planes, but they do lose some.
A 26 year old sub is altogether different than the 17 year old AC I'm REPLACING here at the homeland.
