Cosmos-2445 completed its mission

Cosmos-2445, an optical reconnaissance satellite of the Kobalt-M type, completed its mission and re-entered on February 23, 2009. This means that the satellite, launched on November 14, 2008, worked for 102 days, which is close to nominal lifetime of satellites of this class.

Shortly before the reentry the satellite produced two fragments, registered as 33969 and 33970. This appears to be a normal end-of-mission sequences for Kobalt satellites.

As it turns out, the end of mission of the Cosmos-2445 satellite, which de-orbited on February 23, 2009, was not quite normal.  Its re-entry capsule landed in Bashkortostan in Russia, not in Kazakhstan, as these satellites normally do. The capsule...

On April 29, 2009 the Space Forces successfully launched a Soyuz-U rocket from the Plesetsk launch site. The satellite, designated Cosmos-2450, is an optical reconnaissance satellite of the Kobalt-M type.
