A strategic submarine of the Project 667BDRM/Dela IV class of the Northern Fleet conducted a successful launch of a R-29RM Sineva/SS-N-23 missile. The missile was launched from a submerged submarine at 10:25 MSK (06:25 UTC) on June 30, 2006 deployed in Barents sea toward the Kura test site in Kamchatka. According to the Navy representative, the warhead successfully reached its target.
It was reported that the submarine that launched the missile was K-114 Tula. If this is the case, this is the first launch from that submarine after its return from overhaul in January 2006.

What's the difference between the Sineva and the old R-29? Just electronics?
As far as I understand, Sineva is essentially the same missile, but some evolutionary upgrades may have been made. Also, there were reports about new warheads.
