Following a similar move by the U.K., France pledged to support an exception for India from the rules of the Nuclear Suppliers Group that prohibit nuclear trade with the country that has not submitted all its nuclear installations to the IAEA safeguards. President Nicolas Sarkozy of France said during his visit to Delhi, that "''France will advocate India efforts to acquire civilian nuclear energy in the international community. India is considered a responsible nuclear power which is sticking to IAEA guidelines."
